What is Page Rank?

Page Rank is an algorithm that Search Engines use to verify the significance of a web page. It's one of the most important factors used to determine which pages appear in search results.
Google was the first search engine who actually came with the idea to patent the system of taking into account inbound links, this algorithm was named as page rank.  Page Rank was created by Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford. Page Rank is patented by Stanford and the name Page Rank likely comes from Larry Page.

How Does Page Rank Work?

Page Rank measures a web page importance through incoming links or back links. This algorithm says that the most relevant pages on the Internet are the pages with the most links leading to them.  Page Rank considers these links as votes, where a page connecting to another page is casting a vote.

Why Page Rank is So Important?

Page Rank is consider one of the major factor that determines where your website or page will appear in search engine’s ranking.  With better page rank you will always be on top in search engine’s ranking thus users will likely visit your website.

How to Check a Website’s Page Rank?


Page Rank is measured on a scale of one to ten and assigned to individual pages instead of entire website. To find the Page Rank of a page, use third party websites for example, www.rankpay.com or use Google Toolbar. Only limited pages have a Page Rank of 10, especially as the number of pages on the Internet increases.

How to Improve Page Rank?

If your page rank is not good then to improve it, you need to have incoming links from other websites. You can also exchange links with other people, but make sure that should be through legal way not with a link farm.
